Northgate Trails is located just 10 minutes from Dauphin and offers cross-country skiing trails for all skill levels.

Where can you go cross-country skiing in Northgate Trails?

Currently, the only groomed cross-country skiing trail is the Edwards Creek Connector Trail. This trail is usually groomed by Riding Mountain National Park (RMNP) weekly or after heavy snowfalls.

Northgate Trails is also working on constructing new cross-country skiing trails, with a goal of opening them in 2026. Stay tuned to our website and social media for updates.

RMNP is actively working on building new cross-country skiing trails around the Edwards Creek Connector.

When to Go

Cross-country skiing season runs from approximately mid-December to mid-March, weather dependent.

  • Warm layers
  • Insulated boots
  • Cross country skies
  • Poles
  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Phone in an inner pocket
  • Headlamp if starting late
Firepits are available for use at the trailhead for cooking and warming.

Trail Etiquette

  • Yield to uphill users.
  • Leave no trace.
  • Keep pets leashed.

Northgate Trails does not recommend cross-country skiing on any trail except the Edwards Creek Connector Trail.

Safety

Tips for your Safety

  • Travel with a buddy if possible.
  • Watch for changing weather and frostbite risk.
  • Follow marked routes.
  • All trails have numbered trail markers.
    • If you have an emergency, our EMS can reference the numbered trail markers and assist you.
