Trail Conditions

April 3, 2026

Who would believe we'd still be providing fatbiking trail conditions in April? This might be the last weekend folks, so get out and ride. Edwards Connector is is good to great condition - some icier sections along sun-exposed ridges. Parkline is in great shape, trail conditions get a bit less ideal as you enter Gatehouse. (sun-exposed climb is tricky), however all trails are rideable. Slim Jim has some sun-exposed sections, but overall conditions are great for April. Trails are firmer earlier in the day, so get out early. If you are making ruts, lower tire pressure to reduce damaging trails. Be careful in the parking lot - there are lots of icy patches.

Who would have thought that trail conditions are still reasonably good for fatbiking at the end of March. Hats off to our dedicated volunteer crew of trail groomers who have been out making sure the trails are in good condition. The recent new snow was "fluffy" so a couple of passes with the snowdog has made them rideable. Forecast looks cool for the next few days, so get out and ride. Or snowshoe.  Please remember to STAY OFF all trails (except COOP FAMILY TRAIL) if you don't have a bike or snowshoes. Early spring hiking on the trail in boots degrades the trail conditions. Please be considerate in your trail use.

St. Patrick's Day brought us some snow at Northgate, but our volunteers were out as soon as it settled and did a quick pass on Edwards Connector, and the 5 km (Parkline, Gatehouse, Ol'Chap) and long loop (Parkline, Gatehouse, Sunday Drive, Bobsled, Dirt Nap, Gaylene's Garden, Jim's Ridgeline). Trail reports indicate "powdery" conditions but with the warm weather forcasted later on this week it might be "good enough" for a couple of rides before the melt begins.

Please note that Northgate is maintained and operated completely by volunteers, so please consider making a donation if you are able. Every cent counts!

Get out and ride or snowshoe this week.
